International Dance Festival in Lausanne is underway

Since its inception in 1997, the International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Lausanne has been a meeting point for choreographies by both world-renown choreographers and Swiss artists. In its fourteenth year, taking place from October 10 to October 16, 2011 it offers viewers once more a wide range of pieces that reflect the breadth and diversity of domestic and international dance scene.
The season 2011 - 2012 is very special for the dance scene in Lausanne as it marks the anniversaries of many companies and institutions associated with this city – 40 years of Prix de Lausanne, 25 years of Béjart Ballet as well as 25 years of Compagnie Philippe Saire or 20 years of the Archives suisse de la danse, among others. Several prominent personalities of contemporary world dance scene such as William Forsythe, Mathilde Monnier, Fabrice Ramalingom and Yossi Berg are going to participate in the programme too. On this occasion, the city of Lausanne suggested to all cultural institutions that they include all the dance performances of this season under a common banner The Capital of Dance, Lausanne 2011 - 2012. At the same time, throughout the season the city will invest in creations, exhibitions, workshops, meetings and conferences and present the wealth of the dance scene in Lausanne, based on world-renown companies and institutions as well as both established choreographers and dancers and those on the rise.
