Mário Radačovský´s new company to give the joy of dance to the world

Compelling dance productions, outstanding international projects, and first and foremost, joy of dance –all this courtesy to the emerging independent dance company Balet Bratislava. The company led by its co-founder and artistic director Mário Radačovský premieres its very first production in October 2011 at P. O. Hviezdoslav Municipal Theatre in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Balet Bratislava, a new ballet ensemble enters Slovakia´s dance scene. The independent neoclassical company was founded with the objective to produce high quality professional shows and to achieve international recognition. Balet Bratislava hopes to make a mark on both Slovak and international dance scene with performances in theatres and on major festivals. The motto of the company is bringing joy of dance to all kinds of audiences.
Balet Bratislava plans to bridge the gap between elaborate classical productions of major ensembles and low-budget projects of small, independent modern and contemporary dance companies. Balet Bratislava is a chamber repertory ensemble, a first of its kind in Slovakia. The resident stage of Balet Bratislava is P. O. Hviezdoslav Municipal Theatre in Bratislava.
Mário Radačovský, artistic director, is in charge of the artistic profile of the company. Mário can look back at a long dancing career in major companies in Slovakia and abroad, he is choreographer and former director of the Slovak National Theatre Ballet (2006 – 2010). During his tenure at the Slovak National Theatre, Mário played a vital role in promoting ballet among the Slovak audiences. Executive director and dramatic adviser to the company is teacher and manager of dance projects Miroslava Kovářová, who has been the artistic and executive director of the Bratislava in Movement International Dance Festival since 1997.
The company is made up of 16 young talented dancers from Slovakia, Great Britain, USA, Hungary, Italy and Luxembourg. More than 280 dancers from around the world registered and 80 professional dancers were invited to auditions. The jury selected dancers with classical background and experience in modern techniques.

The company aims at exploring current trends and presenting work by internationally recognized and local choreographers. “The 2011/2012 season will see four premieres – starting with Mário Radačovský´s ballet Romeo and Juliet to Sergei Prokofiev´s score in October 2011. A playbill comprised of three pieces by prominent Slovak choreographers Stanislava Vlčeková, Šárka Ondrišová and Lukáš Timulák entitled Evening of Slovak Choreographers shall premiere in December. The March opening is dedicated to the Czech-born choreographers Libor Vaculík, Petr Zuska and Jiří Kylián. The season will conclude with pieces by Paul Lightfoot, Francesco Nappa and Attila Egerházy,” Miroslava Kovářová said about the first season of Balet Bratislava.
Balet Bratislava plans to commission pieces by leading choreographers. Slovak audiences will see the work of such prominent creators as Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, James Kudelka, Petr Zuska, Libor Vaculík, Crystal Pite, Azour Barton, Alexander Ekman, Francesco Nappa and many more.
