The Prix Jardin d'Europe 2011

The Prix Jardin d'Europe 2011 was hosted by the co-organiser 4Culture and awarded on October 15 in the frame of eXplore dance festival (October 1 - 16, 2011). 15 performances by emerging artists were in the competition for the 4th Prix Jardin d’Europe – a EUR 10.000 European award. 10 European emerging journalists formed the group of Critical Endeavour and had the responsibility to nominate the winner(s) of Prix Jardin d’Europe 2011.

The Prix Jardin d'Europe 2011, endowed with EUR 10.000.-, was awarded to "A gesture that is nothing but a threat" by Sofia Dias & Vitor Roriz (PT). Additionally, the winners received a sculpture, designed by the Romanian visual artist Doru Dumitrescu.
Furthermore, residencies at ImPulsTanz (AT) respectively Workspace Brussels/Ultima Vez (BE) were given to Clément Layes and Cecilia Lisa Eliceche.
The work of Dias and Roriz was awarded for “their thorough re-thinking and detailed investigation of the word, voice and sound in relation to embodiment. The piece achieved a personal identity by engaging in the ongoing questioning of the choreography through creative and physical labour; while at the same time opening up a poetic space of thoughts, feelings and, as the two performers enacted a very intimate discovery.” eXplore dance festival
Once again the most important theatres and museums of Bucharest hosted a wide rage of dance activities.
2011 eXplore dance festival program included 30 performances, 15 dance films (presented in partnership with Cinedans Festival/Amsterdam), 8 workshops, 5 lectures, a round table, as well as a series of special events and programs such as: Meet the Next Generation – an intensive international coaching programme for young choreographers, Critical Endeavour and Prix Jardin d’Europe - activities hosted within the European Project Jardin d’Europe.
The festival once again presented various works by world-known artists and emerging choreographers, offering a wide view of the most important directions in the field of contemporary dance and performance. Acclaimed choreographers such as Meg Stuart, Boris Charmatz, Philipp Gehmacher, Eszter Salamon, Jonathan Burrows, a.o, presented their creations next to some of the European most creative and bright emerging artists.
Starting with this year edition, eXplore dance festival team also proudly announced the receipt of a 3 years co-financing from the European Union - Culture Programme 2007-2013, a recognition with an important impact on the development of the festival. Source: www.jardindeurope.eu
