The lecture, which will be based mainly on practical examples and Dixon's long experience of working in the cultural sector and building and maintaining relationships with donors, will be held online in English and will be open to all interested parties in the field free of charge. In particular, anyone from the fields of dance, new circus and movement arts is welcome. To participate, you must register by 14 April 2024 using the form here.
“In several countries, particularly in the UK, Spain and the Netherlands, I have been able to introduce cultural fundraising outside the grant system. The biggest challenge is always the same problem, namely the reluctance of the leadership of cultural organisations to take action on a path that is new and uncomfortable and perhaps even uncertain,” Dixon adds to his presentation.
The ability to raise funds for artistic activities outside the grant system increases the degree of freedom and independence of cultural organisations. In this lecture we will touch upon specific inspiring examples as well as topics that are closely related to fundraising, such as marketing and campaign development.
The lecture will take place as part of the international project How to fundraise in the dance community under the banner of Dance Context Live as another in a series of activities that focus, among other things, on education and the development of the dance industry through discussions, webinars, lectures, seminars, etc.
“Funding for the cultural sector in the Czech Republic is still insufficient and it is impossible for most organizations involved in the dance arts to operate solely on grants. Thus, fundraising skills can and probably will play a key role in the survival of cultural non-profits in the future. We have therefore decided to focus on fundraising as well, and we are happy to offer the possibilities we have in this area to the industry, so the lecture will be open to all those working in the dance sector. David Dixon is an expert of international standing, we believe his lecture will be very enriching. Participants will get a glimpse into different strategies on how to sustainably fund their project and will also meet other colleagues who are in a similar position and still don't know how to get started with this 'mystical' fundraising,” summarized project manager Lucie Štádlerová the main attractions.
The project How to fundraise in the dance community is supported by the European Union through the National Recovery Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Thank you for your thoughts. One got stuck in my mind – that passion makes us different from AI. Just yesterday I read…I am a dance critic. I am a member of an endangered species
