The publication aims to present dance as a unique artistic discipline that can be transformed into an independent creative activity through the Duncan method of teaching. This method can also have a positive influence on a person's development and play a significant role in shaping their personality. Eva Blažíčková's text, written in sensitive poetic and philosophical language, reveals the very essence of artistic education, whose applicability extends beyond the field of dance. This publication can thus become an effective aid and supportive educational tool in other (not only) artistic fields.
A new publication entitled The Duncan Method – Thinking Through Dance by Eva Blažíčková has been released
Euro Art Publishing House and the Academy of Performing Arts Publishing House in Prague have released a new dance publication entitled The Duncan Method – Thinking Through Dance by choreographer and dance teacher Eva Blažíčková. The text of the book, which is available in Czech and English, is complemented by drawings by academic painter Vladimír Kokolia. The book can be ordered and purchased from January 2026 on the NAMU website and through the Kosmas distribution network.
The Duncan method is based on the creative and pedagogical legacy of sisters Isadora Duncan (1887–1937) and Elizabeth Duncan (1871–1948). In the Czech environment, their ideas about dance and dance education were most significantly developed by dancer and teacher Jarmila Jeřábková (1912–1989). The author of the book, Eva Blažíčková, founder of the Duncan Centre Conservatory, builds on her concept and defines the current form of the Duncanist approach based on their theoretical and practical knowledge and insights. The publication covers the theoretical foundations of the Duncan method and explains the individual principles, goals, and qualities of the developed movement. The publication will be available in Czech and English – the English translation was done by Gwendolyn Albert.
The publication was released with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the State Fund for Culture, and the Czech Literary Fund.
