I was used to seeing purely feminine themes on the Czech stage, usually in the form of very intimate, personal stories performed by charismatic dancers and performers. 

The ability to raise funds for artistic activity outside the grant system increases the level of freedom and independence. But does one have to be born a fundraiser or can one become one? 

Time is a scarce commodity, a rarity, a luxury... Tragic as the advent of covid undoubtedly was, it cannot be denied that it allowed us, albeit involuntarily for many, to stop and slow down.

Why and for whom do we write? What does theoretical reflection bring to the development of the art of dance? What are the conditions, obstacles and joys of writing about dance? 

Cancer is currently one of the most frequent lifestyle diseases, each of us knows someone who is battling it. So when you go to see a performance whose title includes the word ‘tumor’, you expect a serious, depressive content.

In today’s society, death is a taboo. It is marginalized. We pretend death does not exist, we cannot talk about it, and we do not want to admit it is a natural part of life.

Art mirrors its time. Artists reflect - be it consciously or not - what surrounds them, concerns them and disturbs their sleep. 

Out of the blue, the Ministry of Culture postponed the deadline for 2019 grant applications to 12 November 2018 earlier this month. Good news? Rather a bunch of question marks…
