DC Journal 2026

All art is political in the sense that it serves someone’s politics,” says American playwright August Wilson. Authors of the Dance Context Journal 2026 approach the theme of politics in dance from a wide range of perspectives, seeking answers to questions such as to what extent dance is able to draw attention to particular issues, how it is shaped by political struggle or propaganda, and how the bodies that create it reflect the socio-geopolitical context in which they are formed. These perspectives are reflected in this year’s DCJ theme: Politics in Dance.

Dance Context Journal 2026

The publication focuses on original contributions of both popular and scholarly character that reflect current topics and developments in dance, nonverbal theatre, and contemporary circus. It is published once a year in both print and digital form, and all academic articles undergo independent peer review.

DCJ aims to foster dialogue between Czech and international experts in dance and movement arts, as well as between academia, artists, and audiences interested in a deeper understanding of the field in its broader social and cultural contexts.
