Bohemia Ballet, the Prague Dance Conservatory Ensemble Prepares Peter Pan

Bohemia Ballet, the Prague Dance Conservatory ensemble, is working on a new premiere - ballet fairytale Pater Pan. The first night will be on January 22, 2013 in the Estates Theatre. A magical dance performance by the French choreographer Bérangere Andreo depicts the tale of the boy who didn’t want to grow up and the little girl Wendy, who is afraid of falling asleep, of their adventurous journey together through the radiant night sky to the Land of Make Believe and the island of Neverland. On their way, they encounter dangerous pirates, mermaids, Native Americans and the fairy Tinker Bell.
The dance performance is based on the immortal story of Peter Pan by the Scottish journalist, dramatist and author James Mathew Barrie. The character of Peter Pan first appeared in Barrie’s novel for adults The Little White Bird in 1902. In 1904 the play Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up was staged. Later it was adapted and expanded somewhat as a novel, published in 1911 as Peter and Wendy. The work has been adapted in books, comics, TV versions, films, video games and musicals.
The music was written by James Newton Howard, an American pianist, composer, arranger and producer. During the 1970s, alongside pursuing a career as a pianist and orchestrator, he increasingly devoted to songwriting and producing, working with numerous famous musicians – Eric Clapton, Diana Ross, Cher, Barbara Streisand, Randy Newman, Olivia Newton-John, TOTO and many others. The breakthrough in his career was a tour with Elton John in 1975. The first film score he wrote was for 1983’s Twilight Zone: The Movie. Two years later, he gained fame as the creator of the music to Ken Finkleman’s comedy Head Office with Danny DeVito in the lead role.
Howard is today one of the most popular and respected composers for cinema and has scored over 100 films. His accolades include the Classical Brit Award for the Soundtrack of the Year (2008). Howard has received eight Academy Award Nominations for best original score (The Fugitive, The Village, Michael Clayton, etc.), four Golden Globe Award Nominations and four Grammy Award Nominations. Moreover, he has won the Critics Choice Award for the best original score (The Dark Night, 2008) and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music (Gideon’s Crossing, 2001). He composed the music to Peter Pan in 2003.
