Contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE, actor David Prachař, director Jan Nebeský and screenwriter Lucie Trmíková have got together to bring to stage INFERNO – Variations on Dante, a piece inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and the issue of midlife crisis. The grotesque parable of the struggle with sorrow, boredom and laziness, sneaking into human life after its first half is over, with David Prachař playing the principal role, will be premiered on 30th September, 8pm at the Experimental Space NoD located in the Dlouhá Street in the centre of Prague.
David Prachař and 420PEOPLE first met on stage when performing in the successful project Máj at the National Theatre’s New Stage in 2012. And as Václav Kuneš - dancer, choreographer and artistic director of 420PEOPLE - claims, it was clear the collaboration would continue: “We knew we wanted to move forward in our art. In Máj, David Prachař worked also as a director, so in INFERNO, he obviously wanted to focus on his prime discipline – acting. Simply, we were in a need of a director. And due to David’s long-time collaboration with Jan Nebeský, the choice was done immediately. Dante’s Inferno was one of the two themes we discussed a lot.
The Experimental Space NoD was a great temptation for 420PEOPLE, as they have never performed there. “The artistic director of NoD, Adam Halaš, offered us excellent conditions, for example several-day rehearsals right on the stage of NoD (which is not a common thing) and a relatively large number of re-runs, so there was no room for doubts,” adds Václav Kuneš. INFERNO – Variations on Dante fits perfectly into NoD’s dramaturgical conception, as confirmed by its artistic director Adam Halaš: “Besides strong themes, we look for unattended cross-overs of various genres and encourage meeting of top artists from different branches of contemporary theatre scene. We also like breaking out of usual typecasts. That’s why INFERNO, assembling actor David Prachař, 420PEOPLE’s dancers Václav Kuneš and Nataša Novotná, director Jan Nebeský and screenwriter-actor Lucie Trmíková, is so attractive for us.”
We partially build on the success of the piece Manson, which resulted from the collaboration between the DOT504 dance company and Teatr Novogo Fronta. It proved that having first-class actors and dancers together on stage is very attractive for the audience.” And what will the premiere bring? According to the NoD representatives, there is much to be excited about: “Brilliant acting, excellent dancing in an original choreography, unconventional use of a classical subject, genius loci of the outstanding space…INFERNO – Variations on Dante promises an extraordinary theatre experience!” Next re-runs are scheduled for 27th October, 24th November and 12th December at the Experimental Space NoD and 27th November at F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. More info: http://nod.roxy.cz/cs/program/theatre/683-peklo/2014-09-30#.VBZ5by6SzPo
