On the occasion of the première of Don Quixote in the Slovak National Theatre on 22 November 2019, the dance theorist and critic Jana Hošková was presented with the Petipa Heritage Fund Award.
Four individual artists and the Ballet of the Slovak National Theatre have been awarded the accolade that recognises outstanding contributions to the development of ballet art worldwide and to promotion and protection of classical dance heritage. The laureates are the first soloists of the Berlin State Ballet Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Michail Kaniskin. Another awardee is the former étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and the current artistic director of the Vienna State Opera Manuel Legris.
The Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of dance went to Jana Hošková, a former dancer, teacher and choreographer with the Czechoslovak State Song and Dance Ensemble, the chief editor of Taneční listy and a prominent Czech dance critic. The Ballet of the Slovak National Theatre received the Petipa Heritage Fund Award for outstanding interpretation of classical works. The award will be handed over to the director of the company, Josef Dolinský Jr, on the occasion of the theatre’s 100th anniversary.
Petipa Heritage Fund was created by the choreographer Vasily Medvedev in St Petersburg as an institution promoting and protecting the heritage and artistic legacy of the choreographic genius Marius Petipa. The institution presents the Petipa Heritage Fund Award to eminent ballet figures, rewarding their merits in promoting ballet art across the globe, and in developing and protecting classical ballet heritage.
