The New Stage of the National Theatre will present one performance of a legendary work of Ohad Naharin Minus 2 (2010). This production is part of permanent repertoire of Polish Dance Theatre (Polski Teatr Tańca, PTT), which ranks among the most innovative Polish ensembles of contemporary dance.
"We’ve ben in contact with Prague theatre scene for a long time. A few years ago Pavel Šmok directed in PTT and vice versa last year we hosted the prominent Czech company 420PEOPLE at the International Dance Festival in Poznan. Hosting Minus 2 on the New Stage further develops the "Czech - Polish" dialogue in the field of contemporary dance," said artistic director of PTT Ewa Wycichowská.
Naharin’s work is not entirely unknown to the Prague audience. In some modification it has already been introduced in 2004, when it triumphed at the Tanec Praha Festival as a part of an evening called Decathlon. Naharin had presented part of the choreography still under the name of Batsheva Dance Company, where he worked for many years. Now he brings to Prague an updated version that will stand as a separate feature work and will be performed only once on the New Stage.
Naharin himself adds: "Minus 2 is in the broadest sense about reconstruction. In my works I like to take pieces or even whole sections of my existing works and rearrange them into a new shape, which always teaches me something new about my work. So it was when I choreographed Minus 2, which is made up of many fragmented narratives. At the moment when I put them all together, a self-contained compact shape was created."
Ohad Naharin is a "well established brand" in the Czech Republic. In addition to the above-mentioned performance at the Tanec Praha Festival the audience could admire Naharin’s specific choreographic style in a smaller piece Bolero, from the repertoire of a leading Czech company 420PEOPLE.
