Prague Pride Festival Presents Contemporary Israeli Dance within the Space4dance Programme Section

The performance is described as a work for 6 dancers that questions the concepts of right and wrong in modern society. “The Seven Deadly Sins: pride, sloth, gluttony, envy, anger, lust and greed are not forbidden acts but the passions that lead us into temptation…the stuff that makes us human.” (Aviad Kleinberg, 7 Deadly Sins).
‘Hevel’ is the Hebrew name for ‘Abel’, the brother of Caine who according to the Book of Genesis, were the two sons of Adam and Eve. Hevel was the first human to die, killed by his brother. The first reported conflict between man and his fellow man and the first victim.
This is a contemporary, physical dance piece straight from Tel Aviv with an all male cast (Yoav Grinberg, Gil Kerer, Amit Marsiano, Adi Boutrous, Snir Nakar a Liron Ozer), made up of some of the best dancers in Israel, dancers that have performed all over the world. A cast with different backgrounds straight, gay, Jews and Arabs together exploring the whole spectrum of ‘male’ from the typical male in a suit going to work to the image of a young soldier.
Testosterone, vulnerability, loneliness, acceptance, strength and power… The mythological figure of Abel, the first man, who was killed by his blood brother, is elaborated from a new viewpoint. "Hevel" is a Hebrew variant of the name "Abel". Hevel was, according to the biblical book of Genesis, along with his brother Cain son of Adam and Eve. He was the first man who died after being killed by his brother. This is the first report of a dispute between two people and of the first victim.
