The world-renowned dancers Jiří and Otto Bubeníček in collaboration with the National Theatre Ballet will perform a gala Les Ballets Bubeníček on 11th and 12th January at the National Theatre. There will be two exceptional performances, accompanied by dancers from leading European companies (Hamburg Ballett, Dresden Semperoper Ballett, Royal Swedish Ballet or Staatsballett Berlin).
The Bubeníček brothers
are now almost a legendary Czech dance brand and even people who aren’t otherwise interested in dance know their names. They come from an old Czech circus family, graduated from the Prague Conservatory, but they brought their talent to absolute perfection in engagement abroad. Both danced on all major stages worldwide, but remained loyal to Europe. Jiří Bubeníček, principal dancer at Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, is the author of numerous choreographic works and received major dance and choreographic awards. Otto Bubeníček, principal dancer at Hamburg Ballett, composes music to his brother’s ballets and also works on costumes and stage design. In 2006, in collaboration with Jana Půlkrábková and supported by Film-foundation Hamburg, he debuted as a director with the short film Nocturnal Ecstasy, for which he created the score and was also an actor and head editor.
Their performances, in which they showcase their dazzling dance skills alongside the best prima ballerinas, are sold out and sought after worldwide. Critics and audiences alike praise their dance art and the results of their artistic collaboration are also highly valued.
The gala at the National Theatre consists of four parts, choreographed only by Jiří Bubeníček, with music, stage design and costumes by his brother Otto. The audience can look forward to Toccata, Faun, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Le Souffle de l' Esprit (The Breath of a Soul), which is dedicated to their grandmothers - Olga and Marie.  Source: National Theatre Ballet
