However, after nearly two decades of providing our services for free, we need to find a model that will help us stabilize the functioning of our editorial office. We are therefore introducing partial payment for content so that we can offer our readers premium content, while news and reviews will continue to be available free of charge," says editor-in-chief Josef Bartoš.

The online magazine Taneční aktuality is introducing a subscription model. While all news and reviews will remain free, interviews, profiles of personalities, and full versions of podcasts will move to a paywall in September. Readers who register for free by the end of August will receive a free annual subscription. After that, content will be available for CZK 79 per month or CZK 599 per year, or for half price if you register by the end of the year, or as a one-time purchase of articles.

Subscriptions will start in September, but it's worth registering now
You can already register for free at www.tanecniaktuality.cz or www.dancecontextwebzine.com. In this first phase, all content will remain available to all readers until August 2025. However, from June onwards, unregistered users will only see a selection of content, and a prompt to register will appear on the website. This will not only allow you to view articles in full, but also automatically receive a free annual partnership.
From September 2025, some content will only be available to paying readers. Those who registered in previous months will receive a 100% discount on their annual subscription. Others will be able to activate their subscription with a 50% discount until the end of 2025. From January 2026, all premium content will only be available at full price – CZK 79 per month or CZK 599 per year. However, the editorial team will also offer the option to purchase individual articles separately, without the need for a subscription.
By gradually introducing free registration and then paid access to selected articles, the editorial team aims to ensure long-term sustainability and improve the quality of its content.

Paying for content is normal
Taneční aktuality and Dance Context Webzine has long provided news, reviews, interviews, reports, podcasts, and other publications from the world of dance and movement arts. Its goal is to listen to its field and subject it to critical analysis and reflection. However, creating this content requires time, expertise, and financial resources.
"Paying for content is normal. Just as we pay for a ticket to the theater or a printed magazine at a newsstand. We believe that our readers and listeners understand that in order to develop quality dance journalism, we also need a stable financial base and the support of a like-minded community," explains Bartoš, adding that the editorial team can also be supported by making a contribution on the Darujme.cz platform.
