Taneční aktuality.cz released its 8th Yearbook 2014/2015

The upcoming autumn is a traditional time for the editorship of Taneční aktuality.cz (Dance News) to publish a yearbook. This year’s 8th edition provides a selection of texts reflecting the most fundamental dance events of the 2014/2015 season in the Czech Republic, in the field of dance performance, physical theatre, new circus and pantomime. The digest of reviews, reports, interviews and other articles published throughout the past season on the Taneční aktuality internet server must not be missed by any dance lover.
The yearbook’s preface includes short articles dedicated to individual dance genres and written by Czech dance theory experts. Roman Vašek deals with ballet, Jana Návratová looks at contemporary dance productions of the past season; pantomime and physical theatre is in the focus of Ladislava Petišková and Veronika Štefanová informs about new circus.
The collection is then divided – like all the last editions – into several sections by regions. Besides reviews of theatre houses and contemporary scenes’ new productions, reflexions and reports from festivals and interesting projects, the readers will find a number of interviews with choreographers and performers – for example with the Czech dancer Jiří Jelínek, currently working abroad, the Thalia Prize winner Tereza Podařilová or Sasha Waltz who visited Prague during the Dance Prague festival. An individual chapter is dedicated to ballet cinema relays and for the first time, the yearbook contains profiles of the Taneční aktuality.cz editors and external contributors.

The new yearbook offers a bonus, too. “Following the previous topics, this time we bring an insight into one of the basic choreographic principles of contemporary dance – dance improvisation – as described by Bohumíra Eliášová. Rather exceptionally, we have included a reprint of the archival material published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Ballet Prague, which, to some extent, can be regarded a milestone in the Czech dance history,” adds the Taneční aktuality.cz’s editor-in-chief Lucie Hayashi.
The content of the yearbook paints a coherent image of the current situation of Czech dance art and as a printed publication it serves as a valuable material for the future generations. A copy can be purchased for 189 KR.
