The Premiere of the Prague Chamber Ballet Production: The Condition of Disappearance at the New Stage of the National Theatre

The Prague Chamber Ballet are about to put on the stage their major premiere of the season. The dance production entitled The Condition of Disappearance by Korean choreographer Ji-Eun Lee is to be performed on June 24th at 8 p.m. at the New Stage of the National Theatre. In addition to this brand new piece, an exceptionally successful choreography Mono No Aware by Hana Polanská Turečková, residential choreographer and member of the artistic board of the company, will be performed too – the latter piece was inspired by the Butoh style.
Prague Chamber Ballet are currently the largest independent Czech dance ensemble. This time, they invited Korean choreographer Ji-Eun Lee, this years winner of the International ArtExpo exhibition in Venice, to work with them. The music was composed by a talented musician and composer Filip Míšek, author of scores for several Czech movies (e.g. České dětiRozkoš). Stage design and costumes were created by a Czecho-Slovak team of young artists working in the Czech Republic under the famous brand LaFormela.
Ji-Eun Lee studied choreography in Seoul and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. As a guest choreographer she has worked all over the world: USA, Japan, Indonesia, Italy, UK, Ireland, Argentina, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria etc. Currently she is living and studying in the UK. She is rehearsing the new piece The Condition of Disappearance with 6 dancers of the Prague Chamber Ballet. "To me, one of the most difficult issues in general is dealing with relations between people. The theme of my new choreography is "apathy", which may really simplify or, on the contrary, complicate relationships between people," explains Ji-Eun Lee. On the subject of choreography she says: "'disappearance' in this story does not mean a state of "non-being", but rather something close to the process of finding your way out of the labyrinth of life. My appearance and disappearance depends on others, not on me."
The Prague Chamber Ballet conclude this busy season with the new piece, in addition to which a successful dance production from the last season Mono No Aware (on the border of beauty) will be performed; the piece, dealing with the decay of human beauty was nominated among the 16 best choreographies at the International Choreographic Competition in Ludwigshafen (Germany) in 2012. In the season 2012/2013 the Prague Chamber Ballet also staged a gala evening Phenomenon Šmok, celebrating the 85th birthday of Pavel Šmok, the founding member of the company and one of the leading Czech choreographers of the 20th century. Shortly afterwards, the company premiered a new ballet fairy tale for the youngest audiences Who is the Most Powerful in the World?, choreographed by Hana Polanská Turečková to the music of Bohuslav Martinů.
The conclusion of the current season includes progressive work in the new choreography by Ji-Eun Lee. Further performances take place in the new season at the Ponec theatre (September 26th and November 28th), at the second International exhibition Dance Life Expo in Brno (November 9th) and at theatres in Ostrava and Zlín. Abroad, the company perform The Condition Disappearance in the first week of October at the International Festival Tamra Cultural Festival in Jeju, South Korea.
