The main program for this year’s Czech Dance Platform was created on the basis of the recommendations of a panel consisting of professionals in the area of contemporary dance. The panel chose from among 36 applicants whose projects premiered in 2012. A total of 11 productions were selected for the main festival program. From April 11 – 14 audiences will thus have the chance to see leading Czech arts companies such as 420PEOPLE, DOT504 & Teatr Novogo Fronta, Lenka Vagnerová & Comp., ME–SA, NANOHACH, Spitfire Company, Tantehorse and VerTeDance. Andrea Miltnerová and the Theatre Department of JAMU Brno will also present original projects.
The Czech Dance Platform, which is organized each year by the Tanec Praha civic association, presents a selection of the most important works of contemporary dance and movement theatre in the past year. In addition, the festival jury awards three prizes: Male Dancer and Female Dancer of the Year, Dance Production of the Year and the Audience Award. This year’s festival jury, which in addition to Czech personalities also consists of foreign guests, will feature long time director of the choreography centre and festival Danse à Lille Catherine Dunoyer de Segonzac and the artistic director of Dansmakers Amsterdam Suzy Block. The Light Design Award will be presented by festival partner the Institute of Light Design. “Being named the best dancer or winning the award for best production of the year is very motivating and gives moral support to the artists,” says the head of the festival Katarína Ďuricová. “We are trying to help convince them that they are headed in the right direction and that their work is watched and appreciated by the expert and general public alike.”
This year’s festival will take place on six independent Prague stages (Ponec Theatre, Alfred ve dvoře, Archa Theatre, La Fabrika, Studio ALTA, and the experimental space ROXY / NoD). Advance tickets can be purchased ONLY at the Ponec Theatre box office for CZK 190 (adults) and CZK 120 (students, seniors, disabled people).
