The theme of this year's World Ballet Day, now in its tenth year, is to further increase the accessibility of this art form and to present ballet in new ways.
World Ballet Day returns in November
The global celebration of ballet known as World Ballet Day returns to the online space and social media on November 12. After last year's hiatus, companies from Australia to San Francisco will participate in live broadcasts from behind the scenes of their training sessions and rehearsals.
The Royal Ballet, for example, will present a collaboration between four choreographers (W. McGregor, T. Peck, B. Malcomson, R. Myles Stewart) and blind artist Devon Healey, who is dedicated to immersive audio descriptions of art for similarly disadvantaged audiences.
Kevin O’Hare, Artistic Director of The Royal Ballet, said: “World Ballet Day has always been about opening doors. This year, we’re exploring new ways of approaching the creative process and inviting the world to experience what dance can be when we embrace new collaborative perspectives.”
Other companies include The Australian Ballet, Opéra national de Paris, HET Nationale ballet, Wiener Staatsballett, The National Ballet of Canada, and San Francisco Ballet. The complete list is available on the event website. The broadcasts will take place on the channels of the individual companies, with specific times to be announced in the coming days.
