Daylight cannot be made to follow a computer program, so how can lighting design work with it? Here is an interview with lighting designer and artist Pavla Beranová about her new book Light and Exhibition Space.

Martin Maryška, PhD is a cultural manager, aesthetics scholar, and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) therapist and trainer. In his interdisciplinary practice, he connects contemporary dance and psychology with visual art and graphic design, bringing artistic practice into dialogue with its aesthetic and critical reflection. Alongside his long-standing focus on dance in gallery settings, he has for many years explored visual dramaturgy through theatre posters. His doctoral research at the Department of Aesthetics, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University (2021) focused on theatricality and performativity in the context of theatre, building on his earlier studies in aesthetics at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University and in theatre management at JAMU.
He has worked at the Moravian Gallery in Brno, and as a curator at the private Gama Gallery in Istanbul, where he also initiated a Visegrad (V4) cultural festival with a particular focus on contemporary dance. Since 2020, he has led the Dance in the Gallery programme at the SE.S.TA Centre for Choreographic Development, currently in collaboration with the Prague City Gallery (GHMP), while also overseeing the organisation's theoretical reflection activities and serving as editor of the Blog SE.S.TA online journal.
Alongside his work in the arts, he is involved in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) at the National Institute of Mental Health and has experience working with people with intellectual disabilities. He publishes essays on the relationship between contemporary dance and visual art in Taneční zóna (Dance Zone). The intersection of his artistic and psychological practice informs his ongoing interest in the aesthetics of shame.
