The gala evening “Phenomenon of Šmok” will introduce top works by one of the most important Czech choreographers and the founder of the Prague Chamber Ballet Pavel Šmok on the occasion of his 85th birthday. The audience will see choreographies String Quartet in F (A. Dvořák), From My Life (B. Smetana), Musica Slovaca (I. Zeljenka), G Minor Trio (B. Smetana), Having Fun (W. A. Mozart), Intimate Letters (L. Janáček) and Sinfonietta (L. Janáček) staged by Kateřina Dedková – Franková, a soloist of the Prague Chamber Ballet, who currently teaches at the PKB. You can see a video-screening and short videos from a new documentary about Pavel Šmok directed by Ondřej Kepka, who will be the host of the evening as well as Jitka Novotná, who will guide the audience through the programme of the gala evening. At the end, there will be a surprise for Mr Šmok with congratulations from the Prague Chamber Ballet.
Why is it called Phenomenon of Šmok? His traces in Czech ballet and dance of the late 20th century have been unique in many aspects. Even his way to dance has been untypical; it has never been easy and direct. Former and current dancers of the Prague Chamber Ballet as well as most colleagues and other artists, who have met Pavel Šmok during their work on the stage, on films or abroad, will congratulate Mr Šmok.
