Exactly sixty years ago, the first version of Onegin, arguably John Cranko's most famous ballet, premiered in Stuttgart. It would receive its final cut two years later, followed by international acclaim another two years after that, during a tour of the United States.

Seeing the Paris Opera Ballet’s Paquita on 18 December felt like something of a Christmas miracle. Since opening night on the 5th, the ballet’s holiday run has been repeatedly disrupted by strikes, an increasingly common scenario every December. 

Christopher Wheeldon is a rare talent: He’s known as a master of story ballet worldwide. His pieces are being staged by more and more companies eager to inject a breath of fresh air alongside treasured but overused classics. 

The National Theatre in Prague has chosen Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade for its second ballet premiere of the season.
