Its artistic director framed this year’s Tanz im August as a weather map of turbulence. Across the thirteen shows spanning three weeks – from Gaza and Belarus to a swimming pool in Prenzlauer Berg – the metaphor held.
Elisa Frasson
Elisa Frasson is an Italian dance researcher, curator, and educator now based in Berlin, with extensive experience in the curatorship of screendance events and dance in urban spaces, first with the collective Ars di Natura and later with the association VeNe. She holds a PhD in Dance Studies (University of Roehampton, 2022).
She has recently been collaborating with the collectives laborgras and Stream, as well as universities and specialised platforms, with support from Fonds Darstellende Künste, Dachverband Tanz Deutschland, and the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt. In 2025, she co-founded lucia, the first Italian online magazine dedicated to screendance. Her academic writing has appeared in the Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices, The International Journal of Screendance, Dance Research, Dune Journal, Dance Context, and Cambridge University Press, and she has written for Dance Context Webzine, IF Magazine, Tanzschreiber, Stream, Persinsala, and Artribune.
She has taught as Visiting Lecturer at IUAV – Teatro e Arti Performative (Venice) and Università Roma Tre – DAMS (Rome). She is regularly invited to panels and talks on dance and screendance, and mentors projects including, more recently, Abbandoneremo le nostre case funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture. She has also served on selection panels and juries for Lake Studios Berlin, the Accademia Nazionale di Danza’s Premio Roma Danza, and Choreoscope (Dance Film Festival of Barcelona).
